,
I know, I'm not European. But I feel like my heart is... or at least a portion of it. What is it about traveling to countries in Western Europe (OK, perhaps I mean countries whose official language is one of the romantic languages, specifically) that take my breath away? I've always been a fan of the use of hyperbole in my blogs, but in this instance I say this literally: it takes my breath away. Not because of the architecture or the lifestyle or the fact that there are things still in existence before our entire country was "founded." No, it's the essence of a place; the way that I feel its soul (if you will) is present in the people, the mannerisms.
Someone put me on a plane and let me explore. I wish I were trilingual. Or at least fully bilingual. As a native speaker. Maybe I'll find myself a Frenchman.
P.S. I love this quote: “Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” -- Miriam Beard
