Inspiration.

I checked out a new book from the library on Monday, and I'm enjoying it a lot. It's called A Life With Karol, about Pope John Paul II. I've always wanted to learn more about him, so I figured I'd start here (plus, books from the library are free :)). He really was a fascinating, wonderful man, and he brought so much to the Church... and to humankind in general.

I think one of the best parts of the book is learning about the man behind the religious figure. Meaning, the trials and tribulations he faced on his journey to become pope. It's inspiring to know that people like him existed--and still exist. And it encourages me to rely on my faith at all times... through the good and the bad.

Like now. I've been really confused lately. I suppose that could be a good thing--it's teaching me to really think about what I want in life. Yet this week has been stressful, and I sometimes wonder what it is I'm doing. I'm having lunch with an old friend tomorrow, though, so that should be nice. Even though I'm trying not to spend too much money (I really should be better about eating lunch out), I feel as if this is a special occasion, so it's OK. It's difficult not to stress over money issues in this economy. Every month we're seeing more and more layoffs, and I honestly don't think this porkulus plan is the solution. But here's to hoping!

I should go to bed. Too much on my mind, and I need to try and sleep. Goodnight.

Lent, snow and an unfortunate stomach virus

It's been a while since I've updated this. Sorry 'bout that. Things have been busy with work, as I try to learn the ways of the other company. I didn't realize how accustomed I'd become to doing things a certain way--until I switched. But ah well, it's a learning experience. And I love to learn.

Ash Wednesday was this past Wed, for those of you who aren't Catholic. I decided to give up chocolate, fast food and biting my nails (horrible stress-induced habit). So far so good. Of course, it hasn't even been a week. But I know I can do it. I'm also trying to pray more, and read more of the Bible. I think that Lent is a good time to become even more connected with God, on a deeper, more personal level. Sometimes I feel that with the stress of everyday life, my prayer time goes by the wayside. I'm working to change that.

This weekend has been very uneventful. I caught some sort of stomach virus on Friday, and ended up throwing up all night. Gross. I haven't done that since I was younger (well, and from drinking--but that's a different story). Saturday I still didn't feel well, so I stayed home all day. Fun. I missed the Texas Exes celebration of Texas Independence Day, which was not cool. I hope everyone else had a good time watching the bull-riding tournament. :)

It's supposed to snow tonight. And by snow, I mean 4-8" on the ground tomorrow morning. Yuck. I'm feeling a bit better now (though I still can't eat much at all), so I managed to go to Church, go to the grocery store, and now I'm going to do my laundry. It's like a race against the weather. Wish me luck.

I hope that next week is a good one! We have an annual meeting on Wed morning, and it's supposed to be quite cold during the beginning of the week. Seven shots soon, though. Should be interesting.
