Italia, Day 1

Italy was absolutely amazing! It was frustrating that I don't speak the language, but other than that minor annoyance, the trip was great. We arrived (after a long flight) Sunday morning, and took the train into Rome. It was about noon, so we were able to check into the hostel, put our bags in the room and freshen up a bit before heading out.

We decided to take it easy because we were so tired. Ha, yeah right. We went to the ancient part of the city and saw the Colosseum, Forum, Palantino, etc. I loved it! The area is so rich with history, it really is incredible. We signed up for an English tour do to a dire bathroom need (Ancient Romans apparently never had to pee), and I'm glad we did. Having a guide really helped explain all those rocks and ruins we were viewing. :)

We ate dinner near the Colosseum (after two scoops of gelato, YUM!), which was awesome. Having a night view with music playing in the background really made my first night. I'd forgotten how much I missed Europe. We arrived back to the hostel around 10, met the girl in our room (she was American too), showered and went to sleep. Only to be awoken by fan Nazi (more on that, later) slamming down his suitcase. Whitney said it sounded like he had leather and chains. I have no idea what the guy was doing, but he gave me quite a scare... especially because I didn't know there was a fourth person in our room. Fun times. Then, he proceeded to turn off the fan. Keep in mind that it was nearly 90 that day, and the hostel has no air conditioning. I could have strangled him. But instead, I turned the fan back on and grumbled a bit.

Because I know you're curious, here is the food list for that day:
Breakfast: Something gross on the plane, I'm sure
Lunch: croissants
Dinner: Ravioli stuffed with cheese in a zucchini and prosciutto sauce, red wine, bread

Here are a few pictures from the first day:
